About me
I completed my training in the UK and I am a registered psychologist with the The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I hold a doctorate in clinical psychology and I have over eight years of clinical experience providing psychological assessment and therapy for people from different backgrounds, at different stages of life, and relating to a range of presenting concerns.
My Approach
Central to my clinical practice is providing a calm and supportive space for you to step towards difficulties that you have experienced and develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your life. I work with compassion and respect for individual differences, and believe that therapy can provide a context for making positive changes that align with your values and goals.
My training and professional experience has taught me to me to use an integrative approach. This means I draw on different psychological models according to your needs. Some of the models that I often utilise include Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Therapy, and Systemic Therapy.
Inherent to my approach, and the models I utilise, is understanding therapy is a collaborative process which encourages and builds on your unique strengths and skills.
My Experience
I have worked with people at many different stages of life, and on a range of issues. Some of the concerns that I have experience working with include:
- feelings of stress and anxiety
- low mood
- low self-esteem
- panic
- trauma
- grief
- living with chronic illness
- parenting
- relationship difficulties.
I also understand that sometimes the reason for starting therapy is not so easy to identify or express; I am experienced in working with this, and always work with you to find a pace that feels comfortable.
It is important to me that therapy is inclusive and accessible, and I welcome working with people with disabilities and people that identify as neurodivergent. I also have specific experience working with people who have gone through a process of migration; people living with chronic pain; and with young people, parents, and families.
My personal experience of migrating and of navigating professional changes later in life, also influences my clinical practice and has shaped a sensitivity towards understanding individual experience in connection with social, political and cultural contexts. I was born and raised in the UK and completed my undergraduate studies in History and Sociology before moving to the Netherlands and working for a number of years in humanitarian aid. I then returned to the UK and stepped into the field of mental health with a masters programme in Psychological Studies (typically referred to in the UK as a 'conversion course'). A number of years later, and having completed my doctorate training in clinical psychology whilst working with various mental health teams for the National Health Service (NHS), I have returned to The Netherlands, and now call Amsterdam home.
